Recap: Episode 4

I’m not crying, you’re crying—and you’ll cry all over again when you revisit the most dramatic moments of Poldark Season 4, Episode 4. But be not afear’d! After all, we’re in this together. #PoldarkPBS

  1. 1.

    Father/Son Bonding

There’s nothing more touching than life’s special moments between father and son: learning to shave, tossing the ball, tying a tie, and, in the case of George and Valentine, discovering that “gold is best.” George’s affection for his son and his vow to leave his suspicions behind show no sign of letting up, much to Elizabeth’s relief.

  2. 2.

    Hold On

In a cue for us viewers to start looking for tissues, Dwight tells his beloved baby, “Be not in haste to leave us, little one. Stay awhile longer?”

  3. 3.

    Whoa!

Ross is troubled by something. Is it about Falmouth wanting to influence his votes? His still-vulnerable relationship with Demelza? Dwight’s troubling emotional state at the beach? All of the above? Poor Ross, carrying the weight of the world on his broad, scything-toned shoulders!

  4. 4.

    The Set Up

Drake knows full well what Demelza is up to when she suggests that he accompany Rosina back to Sawle. And he knows folks will think they’re courting if they see them together. But as he takes her hand, it seems the path he’s helping her along goes forward, and leaves his past behind.

  5. 5.

    Diagnosis: Disdain

Ossie’s plan to have Morwenna committed for insanity hits a roadblock when the good doctor Enys examines her and finds that actually, she’s quite sane, thank you. Not even Dr. Choake can dispute his findings and deploy his trusty leeches!

  6. 6.

    Make Haste!

Looks like Ross was out of touch with his own mine, after all. Fortunately, his freediving abilities are still intact, and when the mine is flooded, he’s able to haul an unconscious miner to safety, where Dwight, whose medical degree must be from the esteemed 20th Century University, performs CPR and saves the young man’s life.

  7. 7.

    No Words

    (Sob!)

  8. 8.

    Farewell…For Now?

Dwight tries to be brave for Caroline as she departs for London, where she’s hoping that she can forget about her loss. A door closes between them and only Horace sticking out his tongue can prevent us from sobbing all over again!

  9. 9.

    To Westminster!

With heavy hearts, we say another goodbye as Ross heads back to Westminster…where a more powerful George Warleggan, having bought a borough (and don’t we wish he’d actually bought a burro?) awaits!
