President Donald Trump said he would expand oil drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans as part of a broad strategy to make the U.S. “energy dominant” in the global market.

The remarks, at an Energy Department event Thursday, are part of the White House’s “Energy Week,” a series of events designed to promote the president’s energy agenda.

Trump described “how the foreign sale of U.S. natural gas, oil and coal helps strengthen the country’s influence globally, bolster international alliances, and help stabilize global markets,” Bloomberg says.

Trump wants the U.S. to be “energy dominant,” which Energy Secretary Rick Perry described to reporters as meaning “self-reliant.”

“An energy dominant America will export to markets around the world, increasing our global leadership and our influence,” Perry said. “It means a secure nation, free from the geopolitical turmoil of other nations who seek to use energy as an economic weapon.”
