See and hear Carl Sandburg read “Arches”: an excerpt from The Day Carl Sandburg Died. These words appear in print only as a part of a 1,000 copy, limited edition 1962 publication from the Library of Congress entitled, “Civil War Centennial Address.” While its a little known poem, Sandburg had long been interested in the figure of the arch and used it as a motif in his novel, Remembrance Rock (1948).
