At least 2 dead, 17 wounded in Florida nightclub shooting

A fatal shooting at Club Blu Bar and Grill, a nightclub and restaurant in Fort Myers, Florida, left two dead and wounded at least 17 people early Monday morning, authorities said.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, violence erupted at the nightclub’s parking lot around 12:30 a.m. local time. When police arrived at the scene of the attack, they found “several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.”

Three people are currently in custody, police said, and there are two other crime scenes possibly linked to the shooting, including a house about a half-mile away from the club where gunshots also took place.

All victims were transported to local hospitals, the police said in a statement Monday. Hours after the shooting, three remained hospitalized early Monday, spokeswoman Cheryl Garn for Lee Memorial Health System told the Associated Press in an email.

The ages of the victims ranged from 12 to 27, WINK-TV reported.

“We are deeply sorry for all involved,” a post on the Club Blu’s official Facebook account said. “We tried to give the teens what we thought was a safe place to have a good time.”

The post also said the shooting happened when “the club was closing and parents were picking their children up.”

Monday’s shooting follows the June 12 shooting during “Latin night” at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, that left 49 people dead.
