On Facebook, the base said its defense operations center received a distress call from someone who saw security forces during a routine inspection. “There was a misidentification of the security forces emergency services team who were conducting a routine inspection of the medical facility,” the post said. The base was put on lockdown around 9 a.m. Thursday morning after reports of an active shooter surfaced. The report of a “real-world active situation” at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility was made before a scheduled active shooter exercise could begin later that morning on the opposite side of the base. “Fortunately, this was not a life-threatening situation,” said Col. Brad Hoagland, 11th Wing and JBA commander, in a statement on Facebook. “We take all threats seriously and reacted to ensure the security of those on the base.” More than an hour later, on its official Twitter account, the base delivered a message of “All Clear,” adding that the lockdown has been lifted, except for the medical facility.
